Baseball is not only America’s pastime – it’s a great way for kids to learn and grow, using both their bodies and their minds (not to mention their hearts!). How? By participating in a Little League of course (another quintessential aspect of American culture)! Jim Navarre, who runs the Near South Little League, shared the following information about their upcoming season. Participating in this league sounds like a great opportunity for South Loop children aged 4 to 13 and their families.
Near South Little League is celebrating its 10th year of bringing youth baseball to the Near South Side.
Near South Little League is an urban initiative youth baseball league. Our league has grown to over 300 players who range in age from 4-14 years old. We offer recreational and travel baseball for the more advanced players. Our teams play in the Little League International tournament, Cooperstown New York, and the Chicagoland Sunday League. We compete against all-star teams throughout Chicago and the suburbs. Near South Little League welcomes all baseball players regardless of the ability to pay. Scholarships are available.
The goal of Near South Little League is for all kids to reach their full potential. We emphasize hard work and good sportsmanship. Near South Little League recognizes the integrative power of baseball. Through sports, we seek to build a stronger sense of community.
We are running four leagues, and the cost for each is $120. You can find the details here. All games and practices are at Dunbar Park, 3100 South Indiana. The season runs from May 8 through July 15. Practices are during the week and games are on Saturdays. Registration is available on-line through April 16th – register today before all the spots are taken! We look forward to celebrating our 10th year of youth baseball with you and your family. Any questions, email Jim Navarre.
