In addition to serious running events like the Soldier Field Ten Miler and the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, there are numerous fun runs every year in or near the South Loop. Most of them are relatively casual, untimed 5k walk/runs, but some are suitable for more serious runners, with timed 8k, 10k and even half-marathon courses, as well as related Health & Fitness Expos.
Having participated in and attended several fun runs ourselves, we can attest to how truly F-U-N these events are. Whether it’s a family outing, quality time spent with friends, or even a date, it’s almost impossible not to get caught up in the positive energy and silliness. Good times are indeed had by all. Even if you don’t want to participate as a runner/walker, you can often still enjoy the people watching and post-race festivities. And since almost all of them have a charity component, participants are not just having fun, they’re contributing to worthwhile causes.
